Introduction

The last time I published my model Pure-Play Plant-Based Food Stocks Portfolio was back on October 19th, 2022 (see here). It was reported last week that Beyond Meat (BYND) was heavily shorted despite no new company developments which has led me to revisit, and update, the Portfolio in this article.

Our Model Pure-Play Plant-Based Food Stocks Portfolio

Currently, there are five (5) pure-play plant-based food companies - meaning their core business is focused exclusively on plant-based products - with market capitalizations in excess of $50M, trading over the counter (OTC) or on American stock exchanges. They are ranked below as to their performances YTD, in descending order, and in the last month, along with each company's focus, market capitalization, and current short interest percentage, if any, as follows

  1. Guru Organic (GUROF): UP 300% YTD; UP 8.6% in past month
    • Focus: Organic plant-based energy drinks

    • Focus: Plant-based meat substitutes
    • Mkt. Cap: $49.5M

Summary

Our revised Model Pure-Play Plant-Based Food Stocks Portfolio is DOWN 4.1% YTD with a 13.4% decline in the past month due to the 74% decline in Beyond Meat during the week-ending October 17th.

Please note: Organto Foods (OGOFF), with a market capitalization of $75M, is NOT included in the above list as it focuses on the distribution of organic fruits and vegetables rather the production of plant-based food products as all the others on the list do.
