Sensex Today Trades Lower; Paytm Down 7%

Asian markets are seeing mixed trading on Thursday due to Wall Street's negative performance overnight and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Us markets ended lower on Wednesday due to heightened tension in the Middle East and investors waiting for more details in China-US trade talks.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 164 points lower, and the NSE Nifty is trading 48 points lower.

Asian Paints, Sun Pharma, and Bajaj Finserv are among the top gainers today.

Infosys, Tech Mahindra, and Tata Motors, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.

The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.3% lower, and the BSE Smallcap index is trading 0.1% lower.

Barring the healthcare sector and the telecommunication sector, all other sectoral indices are trading negatively today, with stocks in the media sector and the IT sector witnessing selling pressure.

The rupee is trading at Rs 85.5 against the US dollar.
 

NTPCS Secures Funds for Expansion

NTPC raised Rs 62.3 billion (bn) through external borrowing to fund its expansion plans.

Bank of Baroda led the deal as arranger and underwriter.

The loan will fund NTPC's expansion and capacity addition projects.

The fund will support projects like pollution control (fuel gas desulphurisation) and renewable energy initiatives.

The loan can also be used in refinance existing foreign borrowing for capital projects, as per RBI guidelines.

NTPC's Finance Director said that the company aims to reach 60GW of renewable capacity by 2032 and increase total capacity to 130 GW.
 

Hindustan Copper To Tripple Mining Capacity

Hindustan Copper plans to invest Rs 20 bn to expand its mining capacity from 4 MTPA to 12.2 MTPA by FY31.

The company to explore domestic and global copper asset acquisition.

Hindustan Copper will partner with Chief's CODELCO for knowledge sharing and capacity building in copper mining.

Hindustan Copper's net profit rose 53.2% to Rs 0.1 bn in Q4FY25, with revenue increasing 29% to Rs 0.7 bn.

EBITDA grew 19% to Rs 2.6 bn, but EBITDA margin declined to 36.5% from 39.6% due to 300 basis point contraction.

For FY25, net profit surged 58% to Rs 0.4 bn from Rs 0.2 bn in the same period last year.

Hindustan Copper is a copper producer with mines and plant in three locations Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Jharkhand.

Maruti Suzuki Merger Gets NCLT Approval

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger of Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a subsidiary into Maruti Suzuki in India.

The NCLT order dated 10 June 2025 allows the merger of Suzuki Motors Gujarat into Maruti Suzuki without needing shareholder and creditor meetings. Maruti Suzuki informed the NSE and BSE about the development.

The merger aims to streamline operations, boost efficiency, and cut costs. It will help Maruti Suzuki make decision faster and increase value for shareholders without impacting creditors right.
 

RailTel Bags SECL VPN Network Order

RailTel Corporation of India Ltd has secured a Rs 1.5 bn contract from Southeastern Coalfields Ltd to provide managed bandwidth services.

RailTel will set up a network to provide internet and store CCTV footage from SECL mines in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

The project will be completed within three years by 5 June 2028.

RailTel Corporation of India has received a Letter of Intent from the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department for a Rs 2.7 b n in project. The final value will be confirmed once the purchase order is issued.

RailTel will design and manage an Intelligent Traffic Management System in Vidarbha for 10 years, improving traffic control at vulnerable spots till September 2036.

RailTel, a Navratna PSU, was incorporated in 2000 to modernize Indian Railway's operations and provide nationwide broadband and VPN service, with its network covering around 6,000 stations.
