Although the benchmark indices opened higher, they traded negatively throughout the session and ultimately closed red.
Indian equity benchmarks, Sensex and Nifty50, ended lower on Wednesday, dragged down by losses in oil and gas, pharmaceutical and information technology stocks.

At the closing bell, the BSE Sensex closed lower by 116 points ( down 0.1).
Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty closed 35 points lower (down 0.1%).
Trent, M&M, and Bajaj Finance are among the top gainers today.
Sun Pharma, Asian Paints, and Tata Steel, on the other hand, were among the top losers today.
The GIFT Nifty was trading at 26,177, lower by 26 points at the time of writing.
The BSE MidCap index ended 0.3% lower, and the BSE SmallCap index ended 0.1% lower.
Sectoral indices are trading mixed today, with stocks in the realty sector and the metal sector witnessing buying. Meanwhile, stocks in oil & gas and IT witnessed selling pressure.
The rupee is trading at Rs 89.9 against the US$.
Gold prices for the latest contract on MCX are trading 0.3% higher at Rs 138,350 per gram.
Meanwhile, silver prices were trading 1.6% higher at Rs 223,233 per 1 kg.
Castrol India Rallies on Stake Sale
In the news from oil & gas sector, shares of Castrol India came into focus after global oil giant BP reached an agreement to offload a 65 per cent stake in Castrol at an enterprise value of Rs 830 billion (bn).
BP said it has agreed to sell a 65% stake in Castrol for $10 billion (around Rs 830 bn) to Stonepeak. From this deal, BP expects net proceeds of $6 billion (about Rs 498 bn), which will be fully used to reduce its debt.
The transaction supports BP's reset strategy by strengthening its balance sheet and sharpening its focus on core downstream businesses.
Once completed, a new joint venture will be formed, with Stonepeak holding 65% and BP retaining 35%. After a two-year lock-in period, BP will have the option to sell its remaining stake. The deal is expected to close by end-2026, subject to regulatory approvals.

Blue Cloud Signs EdgeAI Chip Partnership
Moving on to the news from IT sector, Blue Cloud Softech Solutions has signed an MoU with ConnectM Technology Solutions to jointly develop an EdgeAI semiconductor chip for automotive cybersecurity. Blue Cloud will handle the chip design and AI-based security features, while ConnectM will provide automotive hardware expertise and OEM integration.
The chip will be used in key vehicle systems like telematics and control units, especially in electric and connected vehicles. Blue Cloud will retain ownership of the core technology, and both companies will share revenues equally. The partnership is expected to generate about $50 million in business over five years starting 2026.
The solution will meet global automotive safety and cybersecurity standards, making it ready for use across global markets. Overall, the collaboration aims to improve security in next-generation vehicles and speed up adoption by automakers.
ACME Solar Soars on Renewable Wins
Moving on to the news from renewable energy sector, shares of ACME Solar Holdings came into focus after the company announced the incorporation of a subsidiary and bagging a Letter of Award (LoA) for a renewable energy project.
The new subsidiary will focus on developing, setting up, and running power generation and renewable energy projects.
The company also said it has received a Letter of Award (LoA) for a 130 MW renewable energy project from REMC Limited. The project will supply power round-the-clock, and the tariff has been fixed at Rs 4.35 per unit for 25 years.
