SpiceJet Clears Dues, Finalizes Carlyle Investment

SpiceJet said on Wednesday that it has issued new equity shares to Carlyle Aviation Partners, a global aircraft leasing company. By doing this, the airline has reduced its debt by Rs 4.4 bn and improved its long-term financial stability.

Earlier, on 11 September 2025, SpiceJet had announced that it reached a settlement with Carlyle to restructure lease dues worth Rs 10.7 bn. This deal will also give SpiceJet Rs 7.9 bn in liquidity, which will support its ongoing restructuring plans.

As part of the agreement, if Carlyle earns more than Rs 4.4 bn from selling the shares it receives, part of the extra money will be used to reduce SpiceJet's future lease payments. This is one of the steps taken to stabilize the airline's operations.

The agreement also provides SpiceJet with Rs 7 bn in cash reserves for future aircraft and engine maintenance, along with Rs 0.8 bn in maintenance credits to reduce lease costs.

Ajay Singh, the Chairman and Managing Director of SpiceJet, said this deal is an important step in strengthening the airline financially and rebuilding its operations. He added that more restructuring measures are in progress, and the company hopes to complete them soon as it works toward becoming a stronger, more reliable airline.
