Asian markets traded higher on Wednesday after key China inflation data.

US stock market ended higher, with all three main indexes scoring record high closes.

At present, the BSE Sensex is trading 405 points higher, and the NSE Nifty is trading 125 points higher.

TCS, HCL Tech, Infosys among the top gainers today.

M&M, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Motors, on the other hand, are among the top losers today.

The BSE Midcap index is trading 0.6% higher, and the BSE Smallcap index is trading 0.6% higher.

Barring the auto sector, all other sectoral indices are trading positively today, with stocks in the media sector and the IT sector witnessing buying.

The rupee is trading at Rs 88.1 against the US dollar.
 

Sumitomo Exits Kotak Mahindra Bank, Targets Yes Bank

After receiving regulatory approval to purchase nearly 25% of Yes Bank, Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. (SMBC) intends to sell its interest in Kotak Mahindra Bank to avoid any conflicts of interest.

Through a block deal, the foreign lender will sell up to 32.8 million shares, or its full 1.65% stake in Kotak Bank as of 30 June 2025.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) authorised SMBC's plan to purchase up to 24.99% of Yes Bank on 22 August 2025. But according to the RBI, SMBC won't be regarded as a bank promoter. This approval is valid for one year. Earlier this month, the Competition Commission of India also gave the green light for the deal.

Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group (SMFG), the second-largest banking group in Japan with Rs 1,66,400 billion (bn) in assets as of December, is the parent company of SMBC.

According to several media reports, the Japanese bank plans to use the money it gets from selling its shares in Kotak to buy a stake in Yes Bank.
 

Sterling & Wilson Secures Rajasthan Solar Contract

Sterling & Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd. (SWREL) announced that it had obtained a Letter of Award (LoA) from a prominent private independent power producer (IPP) for approximately Rs 4.2 bn.

The contract is for a balance-of-system Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package that includes the construction of a 220/33 kV pooling substation and a 300 MW solar power project (AC 300 MW / DC 420 MWp) in Rajasthan.

Sterling & Wilson's Global CEO said this order is a testament to their strong execution capabilities and marks their first win from a private IPP this fiscal, adding to their Rs 24 bn order inflows this year.
 

Bhilwara Group Acquires Malana Power Stake

With the completion of the acquisition of Statkraft's 49% minority stake in Malana Power Company Ltd, the LNJ Bhilwara Group now owns all the hydropower assets through its subsidiary Bhilwara Energy Ltd. Being one of the group's top companies, HEG Ltd and the LNJ Bhilwara Group are closely related.

The deal solidifies the conglomerate's position in India's power industry and represents a major turning point in its clean energy journey.

The purchase includes Statkraft's stakes in the Allain Duhangan Hydropower Plant (192 MW) and the Malana Hydropower Plant (86 MW) in Himachal Pradesh.

Since 2004, the two plants have operated as a 51:49 joint venture, providing clean, flexible energy to meet India's increasing demand for electricity.

The MD of Bhilwara Energy, said the acquisition of Malana Power Company will help LNJ Bhilwara Group scale its presence in the power sale business and explore new opportunities in renewable energy, driven by growth and technology.
