These Top 15 Semiconductor Stocks Up 18% YTD

Introduction

The price of AI chip stocks surged in 2023 as companies sought to power their new AI applications and, as a result, the price of AI chip stocks, as measured by the 30 stocks in the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX}, increased 64% by year's end. That's significant and many analysts think the chip boom will continue in 2024 and, if the 8% uptick in the munKNEE Semiconductor Index of 15 stocks last week - and 18% increase YTD - is any indication, that could well be the case.

All 30 stocks in the SOXX have been analyzed as to their PEG (price-to-earnings growth) ratios and the consensus ratings and price targets of the Wall Street analysts covering the stocks and 15 are highlighted below as to their performances last week, in descending order, and YTD along with the latest news, commentary, and/or analysis on each, where applicable.

  2. Taiwan Semiconductor (TSM): up 15.0% last week; up 28.0% YTD
  3. Applied Materials (AMAT): up 10.5% last week; up 14.7% YTD
  4. MKS Instruments (MKSI): up 9.6% last week; up 16.5% YTD
  5. Nvidia (NVDA): up 9.0% last week; up 45.7% YTD
  6. Lam Research (LRCX): up 8.7% last week; up 16.4% YTD
  7. KLA Corpoation (KLAC): up 7.5% last week; up 9.9% YTD
  8. Advantest Corp. (ATEYY): up 6.7% last week; up 33.0% YTD
  9. ASML Holding (ASML): up 6.6% last week; up 25.5% YTD
  10. Qualcomm (QCOM): up 6.6% last week; up 4.4% YTD
  11. Entegris (ENTG): up 6.3% last week; up 5.9% YTD
  12. Broadcom (AVGO): up 3.1% last week; up 15.0% YTD
  13. Marvell Technology (MRVL): up 1.9% last week; up 14.1% YTD
  14. Micron Technology (MU): down 1.1% last week; up 0.3% YTD
