Now that President Trump and Elon Musk have said that they want to audit the Fort Knox gold, the next question is this -- will this be a proper audit or another PR stunt?

Although it will be often repeated that America's gold hasn't been "audited" since 1974, that's not quite true (at least if you use the term "audit" loosely).

There have actually been several procedures conducted since 1974, but there have also been some disturbing breaches in protocols, including unexplained opening and resealing of vault compartments inside the U.S. Bullion Depository at Fort Knox.
