Dow Nabs Triple-Digit Pop Ahead Of Apple Earnings

Investors spent most of the day digesting a fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) reading that missed expectations, in addition to several megacap earnings reports. The wave of big names announcing quarterly results is far from over, with Apple (AAPL), Intel (INTC), and Visa (V) slated to report after the close. All three indexes marked healthy wins, with the Dow climbing triple digits and the tech-heavy Nasdaq sliding into the black within the last hours of trading.

GOLD, OIL FUTURES ENJOY FRESH GAINS

With eyes still on President Donald Trump's potential tariffs on Canada and Mexico and investors awaiting news from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+), oil moved higher. March-dated West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude added 11 cents, or 0.2%, to settle at $72.73 per barrel.

Thanks to a weakening U.S. dollar and tariff threats, gold futures hit a record high this afternoon. The contract for February delivery is up 1.9% trading at $2,845.80 an ounce at last glance.
