Cannabis Central: Pure-Play Pot Stock Portfolio Performance Flat Again On Monday

Monday's Major Winners and Losers

  • 2 stocks advanced by 5% or more, namely:

    • Jushi (JUSHF) +5.6% on top of +12.8% on Friday
  • 1 stock declined by 5% or more, namely: 
    • Charlotte's Web (CWBHF) -6.3% in response to its poor Q2 financial results released today (see TalkMarkets article here)

The 25 munKNEE Pure-Play Pot Stock Portfolio includes companies doing business in 4 categories based on their primary area of focus in the cannabis industry. The categories are identified below with how they performed given the performance of the stocks in the portfolio that make up each category:

  1. The Vertically Integrated (i.e. Seed-to-Sale) Category has 21 portfolio participants that grow, process, and sell cannabis and hemp flower and related products and it was only UP 0.2%.

  3. The Consumption Devices Category has only 1 portfolio participant  (GNLN) focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers such as vape pens and inhalers and it went DOWN 2.5% in price.
  4. The Biotechnology Category has only 1 portfolio participant (AVCNF) which markets new drugs utilizing cannabinoids (CBD) and it went DOWN 3.0%.

A bit of good news after a period of slight declines. Welcome news indeed. But also, flat performance for a while is only a big deal for day traders and the terminally impatient. Those folks who are in for the longer term and for the dividends are not in a huff. And for additional reasurance just look at almost any graph of performance and observe that there are very seldom any smoothly rising curves. That is just not the way the market works.
