Cannabis Central: Non-Penny Pot Stocks Up 2% So Far This Week

So far this week the equal-weighted, pure-play Non-penny Pot Stock Index (NPSI) is UP 2% with 13 of the 25 constituents advancing, 11 declining, and 1 unchanged in price. In addition, 2 of the 3 related sector categories have advanced as well. The details are as follows.

The pot stock universe has 400+ cannabis-related securities listed on the various Canadian and American stock exchanges of which approx. 300 actively trade. Of those 300 stocks (i.e. 8%), however, only 25 are true marijuana stocks that trade for at least US$1/share and, as such, are included in the NPSI.

Below are the price changes for the constituents that have either advanced or declined by 5% so far this week (i.e. as of the end of the trading day on Tuesday:

Biggest Winners

  • 6 constituents are UP in excess of 5%, namely:
    1. Planet 13 (PLNHF) +14.6%
    2. Village Farms (VFF) +14.1%
    3. Green Thumb (GTBIF) +10.2%
    4. Curaleaf (CURLF) +5.9%
    5. Cresco (CRLBF) +5.2%
    6. Neptune (NEPT) +5.1%
  • 7 constituents are UP so far this week by less than 5%.

Losers

  • Only 2 constituents are DOWN by 5% or more so far this week, namely:
    1. Organigram (OGI) -11.5% 
    2. Charlotte's Web (CWBHF) -5.3%
  • Valens (VLNCF) has had no change in price
  • 9 constituents are DOWN by less than 5% so far this week.

Further details regarding the equal-weighted index are as follows:

  • The official definition of a "penny" stock is one that trades below US$5/share but, when it comes to pot stocks, that is where 92% of the total universe trades, so the more literal definition of stocks that trade for less than US$1/share is used.
  • The market capitalization of the 25 constituents in the NPSI is US$962.8M, on average.
  • The constituents operate in 3 categories based on their primary area of focus and they are identified below within each applicable category:
    1. The Vertically Integrated (i.e. Seed-to-Sale) Category consists of 22 companies that grow, process, and sell cannabis and hemp flower and related products of which:
      • 8 constituents are Canadian Licensed Producers (LPs), namely: ACBAPHACGCCRONOGI;   ROMJFTLRY and VFF
        • and they advanced 0.1%, on average, so far this week.
      • 11 constituents are American Multi-State Operators (MSOs), namely: ACRGFAYRSFCCHWFCRLBF CURLFGTBIFJUSHFPLNHFSHWZTRSSF and TCNNF
        • and they have  advanced 4.7%, on average, this so far this week.
      • 3 constituents are only involved in the seed-to-sale of CBD from hemp, namely: AVCNFCWBHF and  YCBD
        • and they have declined 3.2%, on average, so far this week.
    2. The Extraction Category consists of companies focused on the extraction of cannabis compounds and their infusion into consumer products of which:
      • 2 are NPSI constituents, namely: NEPT and VLNCF
        • and they have advanced by 3.3%, on average, so far this week.
    3. The Consumption Devices Category consists of  companies focused on developing and selling personal consumption devices for cannabis consumers such as vape pens and inhalers.
      • 1 constituent is in this category, namely, GNLN
        • and it has declined 2.7% so far this week.
