Index Funds Vs. Active Funds: Who's Winning?

Who's winning the performance race? Is it indexes or actively managed funds?

In this episode, Ron DeLegge chats with Ben Johnson, CFA and Director of Global ETF Research at Morningstar about their latest Active/Passive Barometer Report which examined more than 4,000 funds with $16 trillion under management.

Fund categories covered in the analysis include U.S. stock, foreign stock, emerging markets, real estate, and bond funds. The Morningstar report takes a deep dive into comparing the results of active funds against their corresponding index or passive peer.

Some ETFs are actively managed. But most ETFs are index-linked funds that trade on an exchange in the same manner as stocks.
